Artists' Row on Broad Street

According to their brochure, the Galleries and Shoppes on Artists’ Row “was started in 1994 as part of Augusta’s revitalization project in the historic buildings along Broad Street.”

“Galleries, working Art Studios, specialty shops, restaurants and coffee houses have flourished in the beautiful historic district.”

“Artists’ Row has everything from original art by internationally renown artists, to local fine art, pottery, hand crafted glasswork, specialty gifts, sculpture, photography, jewelry, as well as unique regional crafts.”

Zimmerman Gallery on Artists' Row

I recently visited this area of Broad Street. After enjoying a brief stop at the New Moon Cafe, I happened to run into Lou Ann Zimmerman on the sidewalk. I didn’t know who she was at the time, but followed her into her gallery, the Zimmerman Gallery.

The shop serves as her working art studio as well as her gallery, showcasing all of her beautiful works of art. Lou Ann was in the process of knitting scarves while I was there. For a $10 cash donation to the Cancer Society, you can have one, too. :)

Lou Ann’s husband is a cancer survivor, and this is one of her labors of love.

Book Tavern on Broad Street

Next I visited the Book Tavern. I had heard plenty of people mention it, but they didn’t do it justice. What a cool place! They carry all sorts of new, used, and rare books. I saw several that reminded me of my childhood, and several others that I would love to have. This means a return trip for me I’m sure.

Do yourself a favor and go enjoy some of the eclectic shopping in the heart of Downtown Augusta, GA. You certainly won’t regret it!
