Day 69 – Rhinehart’s Oyster Bar

Rhinehart’s Oyster Bar

I have always been a seafood lover. It didn’t hurt that I grew up in the South and spent a lot of time on or near the coast.

Fast forward to now. I can’t turn on the TV these days without being reminded of the disturbing events unfolding in the Gulf (thanks to our friends at BP). No one knows how these events are going to play out, and just in case prices shoot through the roof or <gasp>we can’t get oysters and shrimp for a while , I decided to make this post all about one of my favorite subjects in Augusta….Rhinehart’s Oyster Bar.

Rhinehart’s, to me, is an Augusta tradition. It’s truly the ultimate in casual dining. Plus (and this is the important part :) ), the fried shrimp is good, the oysters are good, the grilled shrimp are good, the po-boys are good, the shrimp dip is good, the stuffed mushrooms are good, their cheeseburgers on homemade bread are good, and their hand-cut french fries are divine. Oh, and did I mention crab legs?

Rhinehart’s is also kid friendly. You can’t really do anything to hurt the marked up and carved upon picnic tables, the concrete block walls, or the concrete floors. In fact, my kids always take a magic marker so they can leave their autograph, and they love the arcade games and juke box. Eat inside and enjoy the tvs, or eat outside and enjoy the weather – the choice is yours.

Crablegs at Rhinehart's Oyster Bar in Evans GAIf you’re looking for a great deal on crab legs, head to Rhinehart’s on Tuesdays and Saturdays (4p-10p). Either location is great – Belair Rd. in Evans or Washington Rd. at I-20 in Augusta. There are also daily lunch specials – make sure to ask your server about them.

Get out and enjoy!
